A Care Home, Sherwood Rise Limited, and three of the home managers have been charged with corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter respectively following the death of an 86-year-old care home resident Ivy Atkin.
It is alleged that they failed to ensure Mrs Atkin received adequate nutrition and hydration, which if found guilty is a detrimental failing of their duty of care to provide a basic human right. A care worker, Safeena Bibi, has also been charged with offences under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
The Crown Prosecution Service have confirmed it is the first care home company to be charged under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act. You can read the full story on BBC News click here.
